Beautiful HKDR Ambassador Sophie today |
We held our first "The Junior Pet Lover" workshop in Whiskers N Paws today with the help of volunteers Kimmy (as the workshop developer and main instructor), Rowena, Harryn (as photographer) and two Whiskers N Paws staff, Vincy and Rex. Our own lovely Sophie was also present as a volunteer, although we are really hoping she'll soon find a home of her own (and please come and meet her if you might be interested). The participating children were aged between six and twelve years were from Hong Kong Playground Association, and there will be further opportunities for other groups in the near future.
This is the workshop outline:
Everyone enjoyed their afternoon lessons with Kimmy |
Pets can play a vital role in creating a happy childhood, and there are many lovely animals to be found in story books, toys, songs and cartoons. Understanding the special connection between children and animals, Hong Kong Dog Rescue is offering a new educational programme called “The Junior Pet Lover". This specially created workshop offers an opportunity for children to learn about animal welfare, and to build a sense of responsibility in taking care of and protecting animals through various interactive activities, thereby helping them to develop a respectful attitude towards life.Programme highlights:1. “Pawsome” Adventure - Through a series of adventure-based activities at the big pet supplies store Whisker N Paws, children will learn the basics of taking care of dogs.2. Hello Dogs - Meet the dogs in person and learn how to interact safely with them using appropriate dog-friendly techniques.3. Meet the four-legged Life Warriors - Hearing the stories of our four-legged ambassadors will build empathy and encourage a positive and never-give-up attitude towards life;4. The deep talk - In-depth discussion and reflection on public and civic responsibilities with guidance from mentors.
A happy group of Junior Pet Lovers |
It looks as though I might be having an unplanned extra day at home thanks to the bad weather, and it was certainly quiet on all adoption fronts today. At least the rain will have moved on by the weekend when hopefully it will be business as usual and we'll be back at Whiskers N Paws with the puppy hopefuls.
