I heard something today that I found to be quite staggering, and that's the price of puppies that are sold in pet shops. For example, a shiba inu puppy was quoted as costing $138,000, with poodles somewhat less expensive at $88,000 (lucky number for the breeder), and remember that unlike adoption from HKDR, you get nothing in terms of follow-up help or advice for that crazy amount of money. Now I understand why the young shibas and other breeds are so popular when we advertise that they're available, and today our newest shiba puppy Sumo was adopted. We do have another young white shiba currently in a foster home, but he also has an adopter waiting.
Most of the dogs that we have available for adoption are mixed breeds, but that doesn't make them any less valuable or worthy of loving homes. A dog is a dog, and all that matters is that you love them and treat them well.
I wrote yesterday that we're expecting more small-medium dogs and puppies to be coming in soon, one of them a labradoodle (and the price tag on one of these is higher than a shiba inu), and other others could also be breeds of some sort. However we still have quite a few from the previous intakes, like poodle Briggs and terrier type Bertie shown here in the video. Like many of the dogs that come to us, Briggs needed quite a bit of repair work to get him ready for adoption, but he's now good to go.
Sunday is Whiskers N Paws day again, but the younger and smaller puppies will be staying at our Kennedy Town North Street Centre. As always we do ask that potential adopters complete the questionnaire before coming to meet any dogs or puppies, and you can find it at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-qiestionnaire/
