Aiko looks good now |
Due to personal worries about my dog Griffin, I completely forgot to mention two adoptions yesterday, those of ex-breeder shiba inu Aiko (another failed foster) and beagle MJ.
Aiko came to us in a miserable condition, still full of milk from feeding her puppies and with a terrible case of scabies (mange) which made her itch and scratch until she bled, as well as having a missing tail. She also had very bad luxating patellas on both legs, and with surgery now carried out on one knee she will need to have the second one fixed soon. These days she looks like a completely different dog and her past life can be forgotten, or at least put behind her once both knees are in full working order. This is a typical breeder dog, passing on the genetic bad knees to her puppies as well as the mange. Aiko was very lucky to have been thrown out and sent to HKDR, and now she has her forever home too.
Always-happy MJ after eye surgery |
MJ was surrendered to us with long-term "cherry eyes" which were infected and must have been very uncomfortable. Nevertheless he was always such a cheerful and happy dog, obviously even better after having surgery to remove the "cherries" from both eyes. Now he too has found his new forever family.
I should mention that HKDR has to bear the cost of all treatments and surgeries of dogs and puppies that come to us with a variety of health issues, and we're always extremely grateful for donations to help cover such expenses. There's rarely a day when we don't have multiple vet appointments, and with a waiting list of dogs needing to be attended to. Vet bills are one of our biggest monthly expenses, as you can imagine.
For our long-term dogs there's also monthly sponsorship available via our Life Saver Club, so you can "adopt" one (or more) of them. Your dog will be exclusively allocated, or chosen by you, and you will receive a certificate with photo and details of your sponsored dog, with regular updates for the higher level of sponsorship. Please email Eva at lifesaver@hongkongdogrescue.com for details of how to join, or visit our website www.hongkongdogrescue.com/donate/ for all donation options.
