Thurs 3rd March: We no longer have an Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre

I have to begin by reminding everyone that we no longer have an Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre, and anyone turning up to meet the dogs and puppies staying there will be very disappointed, if not bemused or even shocked.   I still have potential adopters asking if they can come to meet the dogs there, and I'm not sure how to spread the word further.  All of the puppies are in foster homes, or staying at our Tai Po Homing Centre, so while they're still available to adopt you'll have to arrange through Cindy at foster@hongkongdogrescue.com, or go to Tai Po.  Either way please start by completing the adoption questionnaire at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-questionnaire/.

Cassius is a very sweet and gentle boy

We're seeing more and more families packing up and leaving Hong Kong, and sadly abandoning their pets at the same time.  We took in two such dogs today, with the owner now in the UK, having left the dogs with the helper.  She, of course, had no way of taking care of them and turned to us for help.  I doubt that the now ex-owner will be reading this, but such behaviour is really quite shameful, and at the very least he should have
contacted HKDR himself, or any other organisation (the family was based on Lantau according to the licenses) , rather than leaving it up to the helper. We totally understand that many are experiencing difficulties at the moment, but that includes charities like HKDR, and at the very least a financial contribution to the care of such left-behind pets should be offered as a matter of course.

Roxie is more reserved with strangers

On Friday we'll be taking in a further two dogs, also very friendly according to the staff, from AFCD Sheung Shui, as well as a female doberman who's apparently not in good health.  I'm guessing that the two mixed breeds are also family pets that have been abandoned by their families.

The whole situation is really heartbreaking, but please, please, don't just give up on your dogs if you have to leave.  It may be difficult, and certainly expensive, but nothing is impossible if you really want to keep the whole family together, and that includes the four-legged members.  If others can do it, so can you.
