Sun 2nd Jan: Two double adoptions and an Eggplant

Blini is the first of his litter to be adopted

I'm quite excited to be writing my blog today as there's great adoption news to share, but I'm going to start by sharing Jimmy Tsang's wonderful puppy photos from today's Whiskers N Paws mini-event  Puppy Adoption Day 2nd Jan 2022.   There were lots of hopefuls on the terrace, but the only puppy adoption today was Blini, leaving his foster home to move in with his forever family.  Sister Bun remains in the foster home hoping for similar good fortune, while siblings Baguette and Brioche are in another foster situation and also available.
Dopey and Robert are staying together

Now for the big news from Tai Po, one part of which has already been shared on our HKDR Facebook page.  That was the foster upgrade to adopted of Dopey and Robert, now staying for ever.  Hooray for double adoptions and failed fosters!

Donut's going home (with Mavis)!

The next good news is also a double adoption, this time Donut (finally!) who will be going home with Mavis.  The adoption paperwork was completed and signed today so it's safe to share this in advance of the pair leaving, which will be Monday or Tuesday.

This is such a happy family photo of Eggplant going home

I haven't finished yet, as there was another lucky Tai Po dog, this time Eggplant.  Her new family look as happy to be taking Eggplant home as I'm sure she is to be chosen.

Skippy looks so well now

Also joining the Failed Foster Club is Skippy's now-adopter.  Skippy is a shiba inu who came from a breeder with post-distemper twitching, a common side effect of having survived this horrible virus.  Because of his condition we didn't want to keep him at the Homing Centre, and luckily a foster home was quickly found.  Now looking very well (although still twitching) Skippy is one of the lucky dogs that has not only escaped from the terrible life of a breeding dog, but who has also found a loving forever home.

Aiko is now ready for knee surgery

Another ex-breeder shiba inu who came to us still full of milk (and scabies mites) is Aiko, and she is due to have surgery on her wonky knees on Monday after which she will also be moving to a foster home.  We had to wait quite a long time to be able to fix her knees because the scabies needed to be addressed first.  The poor girl had scratched herself raw due to the intense itching caused by the mites, but that's now been dealt with and Aiko can move to the next stage of her healing.  She's an incredibly sweet dog and I know she won't have any trouble finding a home when the time comes.

The coming Frenchie looks like Finn

Inevitably I have to talk about incoming dogs, this time from AFCD Sheung Shui in the form of three puppies and a French bulldog, coincidentally looking very much like just-adopted Finn.  This boy is a senior though, and I assume abandoned by his family for whatever reason.  It's possible that no flight would accept a snub-nosed dog, and anyone thinking about adopting this breed needs to be aware that many airlines won't accept such dogs due to the risk of death during the flight.  The bulldog coming on Monday is said by AFCD to be very friendly to people and other dogs, so as always if you're interested in adopting please start by completing the adoption questionnaire at www.hongkongdgrescue.com/adopt/adoption-questionnaire/

One pair still need a foster home

We also still need foster homes for two of the three week-old pups that we took in, and inevitably more fosters will be needed on an ongoing basis.  Please email Cindy at foster@hongkongdogrescue.com for information about what's involved, or to offer your home as a temporary refuge for puppies and dogs in need of a safe haven.
