Fri 14th May: Last-minute emergencies

Our newest puppy arrivals
Before going into what happened today, I just want to remind everyone that we will be at Concordia Pet Care in Happy Valley on Saturday afternoon with a good number of puppies, and again at Whiskers N Paws on Sunday.  As an extra bonus for potential adopters we'll also be at a new venue in Central next Saturday 22nd June, at WeWork, G/F Lan Kwai Fong Tower to be exact.  Full details will be posted later, but we hope this will become a regular event in the future.
We'll be here on Saturday 22nd June

Of course you don't have to wait for any special adoption events to meet and adopt any of our dogs and puppies, as our Homing Centres are open every single day of the year and welcome adopters any time.
These are just 4 of the lovely young smaller dogs available at Ap Lei Chau

Last thing on a Friday afternoon isn't a good time for the phone to start pinging and ringing, but that's what happened today just as I was mentally shutting down for the week.  AFCD Kowloon called to say that a dog registered under my name had been found in Clearwater Bay, so there was a mad scramble to check who it was before the AFCD office closed.  Kathy immediately discovered it was a bichon in foster and the finder still had her, so luckily my fear that the dog was going to have to stay in AFCD kennels was unfounded meaning the situation can be sorted out on Saturday.

Older puppy Chelsea was supposed to be moving to her new forever home on Saturday, but at the last minute her foster family couldn't bear to give her up so she will be staying where she is.  Failed fosters aren't unusual and we're always happy when it happens, but in this case the potential adopters weren't so thrilled.  It's understandable,  but when a puppy has been with a family for a long time (in puppy terms) it's always best to let them stay if that's an option.   In fact there were two more puppies who had their forever status confirmed today by their foster home following an adoption enquiry, black-and-white babies Albert and Elmo.
Chelsea already thinks of her fosters as her real family

We also heard about another puppy that had been adopted from us two years ago,  and had subsequently been kept in a cage and never walked.  Luckily for this dog a new adopter had taken him on, but unsurprisingly there are behaviour issues they need help with.  I'm still waiting for details of the microchip so I can find out who the original adopter was, and trust me they will get the full force of my anger.  Many potential adopters complain that we are too strict when it comes to letting dogs and puppies go to their homes, but when cases like this happen it makes me worry even more.  How can we believe what people say when there are those who simply lie through their teeth?

At the same time that I was getting messages about these cases there was another one involving a dog that had been surrendered and immediately adopted, but then the orginal owner wanted the dog back and blocked the transfer of ownership.   Given the choice between a loving and lovely new home and the knowledge that the first owner planned to keep the dog in her cousin's carwash, I refused to hand the dog back.  That was two years ago but the case is still unresolved so needs sorting out before the license is due for renewal this year. Life is never boring!
