Fri 13th July: Lucky for some

Lara is now an adopted dog called Phoebe
We knew the day was coming and it finally arrived, as Lara was adopted and has now become Phoebe.  I have told Lara's story many times, but as a quick recap she was adopted as a baby pup then thown on the street as a doglet, luckily found and came back to us to live as one of the office dogs.  She became very attached to our trainer, Cactus, and also another returnee dog, Nancy.  As for the human element in this sad story, in all my life I have never met such an accomplished and bare-faced liar.  The woman denied knowing anything about Lara even though we have the signed adoption agreement and photo, denied that she was the registered owner even though the license was issued in her name, and even denied being in Hong Kong!  I have to hand it to her, she would make an excellent politician.  Anyway, today Lara started a new chapter in her life, and we believe she will be happy and loved, and that's what matters.
Lara and Nancy became very close friends at the office

Cello is now also an office dog and will probably take Lara's place as Nancy's friend, as she too lost the (short lasting) love of her life today as pointer Teddy was taken for a trial adoption.  Teddy and Cello made the sweetest couple, but relationships can't last in the rescue world unless a pair of bonded dogs are adopted together.  We can only hope that all of the left-behind dogs will in turn be chosen and can have their own families to love, and to be loved in return.  Both Nancy and Cello are lovely young dogs and there's no reason for them not to be the lucky ones before too long.

Downstairs at the Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre there was a slow trickle of adopters coming to see the small dogs, and one of the Yorkies was chosen, as well as one of the three show poodles.  I forgot to mention that we had another new arrival on Thursday along with the dogs and puppies from AFCD, a Japanese spitz who was surrendered.  I really hope we will be seeing more dogs and puppies leaving over the weekend or we'll have to think about installing bunk beds to accommodate them all!
Thankfully they all get along
