Thurs 8th March: Lying about Lara

Baby Lara as she was when adopted
Often there's a lot going on but nothing specific to write about, such as today when a couple of dogs needed to go to AFCD for rabies vaccination (poodle Adele) and to register Temporary Keeper status for Lara.   This is an interesting - and infuriating - case, as Lara was adopted as a very young puppy and was subsequently found wandering on the street outside the Pokfulam AFCD Centre as a doglet (older puppy/young adult).  It was quite by chance that she was picked up by a volunteer, who was out feeding cats I think, and taken to a vet clinic in Aberdeen where the microchip identified her.   At that point, although Lara had been given her rabies vaccination at a vet clinic, ownership hadn't yet been registered in the AFCD computers as this can take many months if the rabies shot is given by a vet rather than at an AFCD Centre.   Of course we knew exactly who Lara's adopter was and had the adoption form and photo to prove it, but as there was no legal ownership at that point we had to wait until the license application had gone through the system and the adopter's name was on the license.

Lara was found on the street like this

When a dog is licensed and no official authorisation has been given by the named owner for a change in ownership, anyone can apply for Temporary Keeper status until AFCD contacts the person registered.  So when we took Lara to AFCD the person who showed up in the computer as her owner was the women who had adopted and then dumped her dog, obviously not thinking that a microchip would give her little secret away.   She answered the phone when AFCD called, but denied all knowledge of having ever owned or even known Lara, which is funny since the evidence is there is so many ways.   If you are going to lie you have to be sure you haven't left a paper trail behind you.

After Thursday's sudden cold snap, I'm happy to see the sun out again in time for the weekend's events which include puppy afternoons on both Saturday (at Heal in 10 Second Street, Sai Ying Pun) as well as our regular spot at Whiskers N Paws on Sunday.  There is also a Sports Day for dogs at the Arcade in Cyberport on Sunday (sadly not the huge grass area outside):

Date: 11 March, 2018 (Sunday)
Time: 12:30pm - 5:00pm
Registration venue: Seaview Terrace, L2, The Arcade
Your donation can change a dog’s life for good. For details, registration, and donation please visit: https://www.vetnx.com/doggysportsday/
