Mon 5th March: The Hobbit

Even Iris couldn't resist baby Hobbit's charms
By chance I went to AFCD in Pokfulam for some license updates and was told there was a puppy there if I wanted to take it.    I wasn't expecting the tiny fluffy baby that was tucked inside a staff member's jacket, and of course I said yes.  During the drive to Acorn I kept thinking the pup wanted to throw up but he didn't, and all seemed fine at his check-up although when I dropped him at the Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre he didn't want to eat or drink and also had diarrhoea.

It's common for young pups to become sick from stress if they are handled too much, constantly being picked up and put down, and I see this often after a Sunday puppy afternoon.  New fosters or adopters also frequently report that their puppy has diarrhoea and doesn't want to eat, but I ask that they wait a day before rushing to the vet because this is such a common symptom of stress and it invariably passes.  I'm really hoping this is the problem with new baby Hobbit, but he'd apparently only been bought a few days before being surrendered and the chances are high that he was given up because he was sick.  If that's the case then he will be going back to Acorn first thing in the morning, but if he is back to normal then I'll wait for the rush of enquiries.

Jolly is now officially Bodhi
There was some good news about confirmed adoptions after a trial period. with Jolly now officially Bodhi, and schnauzer Frodo leaving just Gunner from that ex-breeder group in need of a home.  This is what Jolly/Bodhi's adopter had to say, and remember we have many dogs and puppies who are just as lovely: "every day so far has been exactly what I had anticipated and MORE with Bodhi. He has already learned to sit before crossing any streets and his calm/good nature has been consistent since day 1".
