Tues 9th July: Catching up

Sweet and small India

Eric Tang was our volunteer photographer for Sunday's Puppy Party at Whiskers N Paws, and here are the wonderful results Puppy Adoption Day 7th July 2024 . Youngsters Impi and India were chosen to stay behind after the event to become the latest in-store HKDR Ambassadors, so if you want to meet these truly delightful little sisters you can drop by any day to say hello.
Adorable little Impi

Flora

As always I have my eye on Flora, a beautiful medium-sized doglet who reminds me so much of another black fluffy dog I had called Diamond (sadly with a fatal obsession for snakes). This "breed" always seem to be exceptionally kind, intelligent and everything else that's good, so I keep wondering why Flora is still waiting for her forever home.

Twice a month we also hold our Small (adult) Dog Adoption event at Whiskers N Paws, and that's coming up this Saturday afternoon from 2pm to 4pm.  On other days you can meet the small and medium-sized dogs at our Kennedy Town Homing Centre, and if you want to take a look at the selection in advance you can browse our website at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/dogs/.

Milo is the most recent recruit at Kennedy Town, and he has a bit of a strange story.  It started when we received a surrender request for a 5 month-old "terrier cross" puppy, and although the photo we were sent looked more like a corgi cross, we agreed to accept Milo.  However when he arrived he looked older than five months, so he was taken to AFCD to be microchipped and licensed. It turned out that he was already licensed, and that according to the license he was actually four years old.  When I asked the person who had submitted the surrender form about this, he insisted that the "puppy" was only a few months old.  When Milo was taken to Acorn for a health check and vaccination, he was assessed as being younger than four but older than a few months, so we will get his records changed to register him as being one year old.

A devoted couple, Grace and Glenn

We had a very sad loss at our Kennedy Town Centre today when little Grace succumbed to pneumonia, leaving her devoted partner, Glenn, without his constant companion.  We were wondering how he would cope with being on his own for the first time in his life, as these two seniors came to us with their family of ten so had always been together.  Happily Glenn was offered a place in a home with another little ex-HKDR poodle, one that Glenn already knew, so we're immensely grateful for such a wonderful act of kindness.

Their birthday will be set as 8th July

Another family that we recently took in passed a big milestone today when their eyes opened for the first time.  This happens at the two-week mark, so we can assign the babies a birthdate.  Taking care of newborns isn't easy, and it hasn't been without the dramas that often come with such young babies, so I want to thank the foster parents for their tireless care.

If you're interested in adopting any of our dogs or puppies, please complete the adoption questionnaire as a first step.  It's at www.hongkongdogrescue.come/adopt/adoption-questionnaire/.

Young Zak needs a home please

We would also love to find homes or fosters for some of our small and medium-sized dogs that don't cope well with being in a Homing Centre situation.  This applies mostly to poodles, as they're highly intelligent but also very sensitive/emotional, which is why many end up being "Red" dogs (those with behaviour issues).  We have young poodles who really need to be in homes where they can relax and de-stress, and if you can help please fill in the fostering application at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/volunteer/fostering/.  (Homes without children are necessary).
