We took in two new puppies from AFCD today, brothers Biggles and Bentley, and the timing was just right because Impi had been taken home from Whiskers N Paws in the morning meaning there were two vacancies to be filled.
We were also able to accept one year-old shiba inu girl Kimi to take the place of just-adopted Aimi, so it was a lucky day for all three.
Our Homing Centres are always full these days, so it's a matter of one out allowing another one in, and with so many surrender requests we have to work on a space availability system. This applies for the larger dogs especially, so we need to have homes lined up before we can take any new dogs in, which is what happened with the beautiful white German Shepherd girl, Chloe. She actually had two potential homes, so her stay with us was a very short one.
Now we want to try to help the young husky who's being given up because of a new human baby in the home, and that's always a situation that's very upsetting. There's absolutely no reason why a dog should be thrown out because of a baby, especially since it's been proven time and again that babies who grow up with animals in the home have a much stronger immune system, not to mention a live-in friend and companion.
For all adoption enquiries please start by completing the questionnaire so we can assess the home and family situation. Not all dogs are suitable for every home, and with so many dogs being surrendered or abandoned every day it's important that there's a good match, and that the commitment of having a dog is fully understood. Just today I received another surrender request from someone who had got a puppy for their child, and is now saying the puppy is biting (it's two months old). As a reminder once again, ALL puppies bite, regardless of size, breed or how much they cost, because they're babies and this is part of their learning process.
