Thurs 10th Aug: Rainy days bring dreams of a home

Rex and Nova, both small young adults

It seems I spoke too soon about the potential new home for Rex and Nova, so once again I have to ask if anyone can offer these two lovely young and small-sized dogs a chance to stay together?  There's nothing wrong with them, it's just that they have lost their family and are about to lose their home. Surely there's a new family out there somewhere who would love to adopt such sweet and easy dogs?  With the weekend coming up I'm hoping for more enquiries and adoptions, and with luck at least one serious offer for Rex and Nova.

Meanwhile we have adorable puppies waiting for homes too, and they're staying at our main Kennedy Town Homing Centre at Shop 4, Brilliant Court, Sai Hong Lane, 28 Praya Kennedy Town.  I know many families want to adopt a puppy rather than an adult dog for several reasons, but I also know that our trainer Cactus receives so many requests for help from puppy adopters, mainly regarding play biting but also other aspects of training.  The difference between a young adult and a puppy can be as little as a few months, but during those months the behaviour and training needs change a lot.  If you have young human children at home, I would seriously recommend that you think carefully about adopting another baby in dog form, because they need a lot of time and attention too.

I got caught in the heavy rain today, and it looks as though it's going to be the same wet weather for the next couple of days at least. While I enjoy the drop in temperature, every time it rains hard like this I think about the dogs at Tai Po and desperately wish they had homes.  There are many doglets staying there who recently moved from Kennedy Town, or their foster homes, and also many who are now mature adults but who came to us as newborn pups.  Some were adopted when they were young and then returned, and I find all of these cases deeply upsetting (see  the previous paragraph about adopting young puppies).

Lovely Richie is at our Tai Po Centre

Richie is one of those sad cases, adopted as a baby puppy and returned as a doglet because he grew to be too big.  He's now two years old and he's still waiting for that second chance, even though his only crime was that he turned out to be large sized.   This is yet another reason to choose an adult rather than a puppy if size is a concern.  It's not fair to adopt and then reject because of this alone.

For all adoption enquiries please start by completing the questionnaire at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-questionnaire/

For fostering the form is at www.hongkongdogescue.com/volunteer/fostering/
