Thurs 22nd Dec: Please make sure your dog is safe

Another small ex-HKDR is lost in Sai Kung, and I don't want to blame anyone BUT many of these cases are preventable. If you're walking in an unfamiliar area where your dog doesn't know how to safely get back home then you must take extra precautions, such as having the double non-slip collar plus secure harness combination.   It's very easy for a scared dog to slip out of a collar, or a harness that isn't one of the kinds that is almost impossible to get off.   Unless you know for sure that your dog is confident in all situations and will never be spooked, then attach a tracker.  These cases of lost dogs happen all the time, so please don't think that it won't happen to you.  This particular case is in an area where there are lots of dog lovers who can help with a search, but as I wrote just the other day on the same subject, when a dog is in survival mode it may not respond to any calls, not even from the people it knows well.

"HELP! We need help desperately.

Maeva (previously Ava) ran off while my helper was walking her at around 5:00pm today at Tai Mong Tsai area BBQ site14 BBQ area. The whole family is devastated. She was spooked by two men who suddenly appeared - her leash (red colour extendable lead) is still attached to her harness. She has a collar & a name tag with our phone nos.  Four of us have been looking at that area for 3 hours but no luck.
She is still shy with strangers especially men."

This short video showing HKDR@Elgin dog Harlow out for a walk clearly shows the collar/harness safety combination that we use with all of our new dogs.  If one fails, then the other can save the dog's life.

Please don't post any critical comments about this situation, what we want is for Maeva to be safely reunited with her family and for others to take note, and to make sure that this doesn't keep happening.
