Sat 9th April: Rays of hope

Iris's sold-out Grooming Workshop took place today at WOW Pet Shop in Causeway Bay today, and as always the attendees paid close attention while the important aspects of at-home dog care were demonstrated. These included nail clipping and ear cleaning, and the participants who brought their own dogs along were able to practise on the spot.  If you are interested in attending future workshops you can put your name down by emailing Cactus at education@hongkongdogrescue.com, including whether you prefer Cantonese or English or can do either.

Iris is a very experienced groomer as well as being our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre Manager

Over in Central our PAWsome Outreach volunteers were at Tamar Park with the chosen dogs for the day, and having a great time as always.  We are there every Saturday afternoon and everyone is welcome to come along with their own dogs to join in the fun.  This open area on the Central waterfront is a great facility for dogs, and I hope it stays.

Mary
Sweet siblings Joseph and Mary left the Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre today, and as it happens their new foster (and hopefully soon-to-be-adopter) already knew the two dogs from having seen them on a regular basis being walked by the previous owner's helper, and recognised them immediately when their photos were first posted.  Having already adopted several dogs from HKDR over the past years, some of whom have already died of old age, we know for sure that this home will be for ever.

I was looking forward to a day at home with the dogs but in the end made another visit to the New Territories in our never-ending quest for a permanent site.  As always, I will keep any details quiet until, and if, there is anything to say, but there is a ray of hope with this one at least.

The boys have new Startrek names: Captain (Kirk) and Spock
For now I'm just pinning my hopes on Sunday's Whiskers N Paws puppy afternoon, that the rain will stay away and that puppies will be saying their goodbyes as they leave with their new families.  There is already a very happy update regarding the shy "shabrador" brothers Jonny and Noddy who were taken for a trial last weekend, as they are doing very well and will skip this Sunday in anticipation of a confirmed adoption announcement very soon.  This was really the best surprise of the year so far, as I was worried that these two boys would never make a impression on any potential adopters as they stayed hidden in the corner week after week.
