Before anything else I just want to remind everyone that with the current high temperatures please don't walk your dogs in the middle of the day, or for too long. As much as we're always emphasising the importance of adequate exercise and the opportunity for dogs to run and play outside, there are times when it's better to be safe than sorry. Roads and pavements are like ovens, and even beaches are best avoided as the sand is extremely hot and dogs can easily swallow too much sea water if thirsty, and with dire results.
Cora already has a home |
I also need to mention that we had an amazing result to our request for volunteers to help with the new small dogs at Elgin Street, and we have enough for now, especially as there have also been a lot of adoption enquiries. In fact one of the dogs was taken home today, and she's already a great hit in her new home. Congratulations Cora! With luck there will be far fewer dogs needing feeding and cleaning-up after by the weekend. Thank you to everyone who offered their time, and we'll keep the names and details on record for the next time (which I'm sure will happen).
As I'm sure you know by now, every dog that's adopted from HKDR comes with the free service of our amazing trainer, Cactus Mok, and we do ask that adopters take advantage of this opportunity rather than randomly choosing other trainers that may not have the expertise that Cactus does, or use old-fashioned training methods that include punishment. There's also so much confusing information on Facebook and YouTube, and it's really hit-and-miss when it comes to choosing the right trainers or videos to follow. One Facebook page that I really recommend is Dogs Disclosed with their clear and easy-to-understand graphics that align with the same principles we follow at HKDR. The good sites are very valuable back-ups to Cactus's advice, and if in doubt you can always check with her to make sure you're not using conflicting training.
