I really hope that the number of small dogs currently staying at our HKDR@Elgin space in Soho will be considerably reduced after the weekend, because this wasn't supposed to be used as a Homing Centre even if I'm very happy that we had somewhere safe for the dogs when they suddenly arrived. There were several potential adopters today, so hopefully when they come back on Saturday it will mean them leaving with their new family member. Thankfully we have recruited volunteers to cover Saturday and Sunday, but unless every dog staying at 22 Elgin Street is adopted over the weekend we'll still be needing more volunteers for the coming week to help with the cleaning and general care of the dogs.
It's been very challenging for everyone trying to operate out of multiple locations, and it seems clear that we will need to employ another Homing Centre staff member to help cover the seven days of the week that we are open. I should also mention that we are very sadly losing a long-term and valuable office staff member, so we will need a replacement on the administration side. All of the HKDR staff, whether working at the Homing Centres or in the office, have stayed with us for a long time and have become part of our "family", so it's very important that anyone new will be able to fit in with our beliefs and work ethic, which basically means dogs come first. I will have a full job description for the administrative position early next week, but if you are interested you can send your CV to me at sallyandersen.hkdr@gmail.com. If possible we would ideally recruit from our existing volunteer pool, so that there's already an understanding of what we do and how we work.
Sunday is of course when the Whiskers N Paws puppy party takes place, and there will be foster puppies joining the three current store residents, Drake, Drummond and Esme.
