Fri 8th July: Kai the Piggy Bank

Kai's piggy bank

It's not the first time it's ever happened but it's certainly not something we see every day, and that's a coin inside a dog - or in this case a puppy.  Kai was due to be picked up by his adopter on Saturday, as I wrote yesterday, but when he started coughing we sent him to Acorn to be checked out, not wanting to send a sick puppy off to a new home.  He had an X-ray which was when the coin (and a hair clip) was spotted, so we're now waiting to see if it will pass through him naturally, or if surgery will be necessary to remove it.  We have no idea how the coin came to be eaten, or even to be in with the puppies, and can only assume it dropped out of someone's pocket.   It's a good reminder that puppies, and even older dogs, will eat anything  lying around, whether accidentally or deliberately.  Even though I haven't had any puppies in my home for some years I have one particular dog who's a terrible thief, and he'll take anything and everything that's not well out of reach or locked away.

The weekend has come round once again and I'm hoping that the latest additions at both Homing Centres will have a chance to meet potential adopters, not to mention the puppies at Whiskers N Paws on Sunday afternoon.

It's going to be a hot couple of days, so if you're heading out to the countryside with your dogs please make sure you take enough water and stay out of direct sunlight as much as possible.
