Tues 1st Oct: Starting a new month

Google is a very sweet and happy poodle girl, 9 years old
Although it was a good day to stay at home we had a few visitors to our Homing Centres, though no dogs actually leaving.  It's true we have homed all of our young and smaller-sized Ap Lei Chau residents, but there are still quite a few in foster homes that are available and others like poodle Google who are lovely and very sweet, just no longer what could be called young.  That doesn't mean that Google and other nine year-olds are too old to have many years of life ahead of them, and since my own small dog Murphy will soon be turning eighteen and is still enjoying life, that's double Google's age.
Angel and Beauty are in foster care and are young and very sweet girls

Over at Tai Po we have hundreds of dogs, maybe not all suitable for adoption due to old age or timid behaviour, but most of them are perfectly ready for adoption.  We have all ages from puppy to senior, all sizes through from medium to large, and an adoption team that knows the dogs well and can recommend just the right one for you and your family.  Everyone is welcome to visit any day of the year, and that means every single day without exception.

I do need to mention though that not every home is suitable for keeping a dog, and if that applies to you then please think about volunteering instead.   By signing up to be a volunteer you can spend as much time with the dogs as you have free, without the commitment of full time care.  Many, if not most, of our volunteers would love to have their own dog but understand that dogs need time and companionship on a daily basis, and if you're working most days then you don't have the time for a dog unless you have someone else at home who can provide that care.   It's not enough to spend a few hours together in the evening or weekends, having a dog is like having a child in terms of their needs.

While I remember, we are always in need of newspaper for the dogs and puppies and we run out all the time.  Please save any newspapers that you may have and bring them to our Homing Centres as and when you can, thank you!
