Sat 10th Aug: More small dogs on the way

Coffee was in and out
It wasn't surprising that Coffee the chocolate labrador was an in-and-out dog, arriving in the morning and leaving for her new home just a couple of hours later.  She's going to have a great new life, I'm sure about that.

However what was a lovely and unexpected adoption was that of Sandra, who'd ended up at AFCD kennels in Pokfulam after having been found living as a stray in the Ap Lei Chau waterfront park (where dogs are strictly forbidden of course).  Coincidentally Sandra had been there at the same time as our runaway terrier Tina, so volunteers who'd been out trying to catch Tina after her escape from the Homing Centre had seen posters for a missing dog who looked exactly like Sandra.  When I saw her at AFCD I'd hoped it would mean a happy reunion,  but when it turned out that Sandra wasn't the lost pet she came to HKDR instead.

Sandra was adopted today

There's another runaway story which I'm confident will have a happy ending, even if the dog in question is still living a free life at this particular moment.  I've written about the three new small dogs that came to us on Wednesday, and they're all currently staying with my neighbours on Lamma.

Houdini (Dini) is one very smart boy
However there was a fourth dog, a terrier that looked  similar to Tina and is almost certainly related as all of these dogs come from the same place, and this boy has the same character too.  Within a few hours of arriving at his temporary home, he'd pulled out of his harness while being taken out at night in the garden, and fled.  I honestly thought that would be the last we'd see of Houdini (Dini) because there's nothing between us and the Lamma hills, and even looking for him was a waste of time because he could have been anywhere.  Then he was spotted - back in the garden of my neighbour's house, where he now comes and goes, even relaxing on the outdoor furniture after his meals, as if he's been there all his life.   Of course efforts are being made to entice him back inside using food and his dog friends as bait, but so far he's stayed away from the door and also the trap that's sitting there.

As for the other three, I'm planning on taking them to Whiskers N Paws on Sunday as there have been so many enquiries about them.  There are more small dogs due to arrive on Sunday so it looks as though I'll be coming back to Lamma with them if the others are adopted.
