Weds 15th Feb: Different ways of raising funds

We think it's been an amazing effort by Giles
We get quite a lot of volunteering enquiries from enthusiastic students wanting to walk the dogs or do something to help out, and we have to say sorry, all dog walkers must be eighteen or above but there are still many ways our younger (or any age) supporters can get involved.  Giles Wilson left school quite a few years ago but he wanted to do something for the dogs and decided to start running to raise funds.  We have been posting his achievements over the past year, and last Sunday's Hong Kong Marathon was the last of his running efforts.  In his own words:

From Giles Wilson:
363 days, 2000km and 26 races later, and it's all over. My charity fundraiser ended with the Hong Kong Marathon today and it was brutal. The first 30km was fine, but after that it was tough. Every slight incline felt as if I was climbing Mount Everest. 😝 Anyhow, I completed it in a very disappointing time of 5 hours and 9 minutes running 43.2km as well. 😒 Thank you to everyone who donated. I didn't raise anywhere near as much as I hoped when I started this journey but any money and publicity about the plight of mans best friend can't all be bad.
To date my fundraiser has raised US$11,763 / HK$91,260. Thanks again to everyone who has donated and is still donating. I genuinely appreciate it. The fundraiser site will close on the 28th February. It would be great to raise HK$100,000 by then. Skip your morning coffee and donate the money to help the animals. 🙏💗🏃‍😻

Even though we are thrilled with the amount of money Giles has raised, he is disappointed that he didn't reach his target so can you help make his day by donating towards that final $8,740?

We got Blondie just in time
There was happy news today about two lovely oldies who have had their adoption confirmed.  Blondie and Tricky are two of the three senior pekes I took from AFCD, with the third being Eddie.  Although Blondie had apparently already been spayed (desexed), it had been done so badly that she needed life-saving surgery by Dr Tony at Acorn.  Thankfully it was done in time and she seems to have pulled through nicely.
The third peke boy Eddie is unfortunately facing his own health battle with probable cancer and a poor prognosis, and it's these types of surgeries that are costly even if very worthwhile.  We always appreciate all and any donations which allow us to pay for the best possible veterinary treatment even though we don't ask or expect adopters to cover these costs.  Our aim is to try to find lovely retirement homes and do what we can to remedy years of previous neglect.
Tricky and Blondie will stay together

Meanwhile, our Education & Training Manager, Cactus, was out and about last week at the City University of Hong Kong, along with dog ambassador Hamlet:

"Huge thanks to the English Department students for not only donating to us, but also organising an educational talk to spread the word about HKDR. We were thrilled that almost 40 people have signed up as our volunteers on-site. See you soon in our Homing Centres!"
