Weds 15th Nov: The pointer family

Father in the foreground
We welcomed a pair of late arrivals to our Tai Po Homing Centre today, the adults of a pointer family who had become quite familiar on Facebook recently due to the father and one son regularly getting out of the garden of their home and running around the Sai Kung countryside.  Every time they were caught and returned they'd simply run off again, obviously enjoying their jaunts without realising the dangers.  As always there's a story behind the story, and while these dogs weren't in any way being mistreated the arrival of an unwanted litter meant the owner just couldn't cope and didn't need much persuading to re-home the pointers.  The adults are themselves barely out of puppyhood, and at least one of the pups will be joining them at Tai Po at the weekend, assuming they haven't been adopted by then.
The pointer mother, 1 year old

Obviously we would like to get the mother (now desexed) and the father (desexing imminent) into homes as soon as possible, but just like the labrador puppy that we took in recently, this breed are sporting dogs that need real exercise and not just a stroll round the block once or twice a day. They are beautiful and very good natured, so if you are interested in adopting please complete the Adoption Questionnaire on our website www.hongkongdogrescue.com (under Adopt).
Sweet Portman has a home

Smaller-sized mongrel Portman had his adoption confirmed today, so that's one less to take to Whiskers N Paws this Sunday.  For this particular dog it's a relief because he was always so determined to jump to the "owned dogs" side of the terrace that it was almost impossible to keep him on "our" side.  I don't know what it is or how puppies even know the difference, but so many of them spend most of Sunday afternoon trying to climb or squeeze through the barriers to get to where the grass seems to be so much greener.  It's one of those great life mysteries that I doubt I'll ever solve.
Rafi's previous foster made this collage

I won't be taking Rafi to Whiskers N Paws either this Sunday, it being Peak to Fong which means me leaving home very early to get to the start at the Peak Galleria by ten thirty.  However as Rafi is being fostered by my neighbours, who have also found him to be the cuddliest boy ever, if anyone is interested in meeting him any day of the week, just let me know.  It's easy to bring him over to Ap Lei Chau with me any day.

It's business as usual at both of our Homing Centres as well as Whiskers N Paws on Sunday, although quite a few volunteers will be at Peak to Fong with a number of Tai Po dogs, so please look out for them.  All of the dogs are available for adoption and you will see how well they behave, even in a crowd.

If you wish you could go to Peak to Fong with a dog of your own, you have time between now and Sunday to adopt.  There are so many lovely dogs I can't even begin to list or name them all, so just head over to Tai Po or Ap Lei Chau and see for yourself.
