Thurs 4th Nov: A surprise delivery of four bread rolls

Two things happened today that I hadn't been planning on, in fact I thought I'd be working from home rather than going over to Hong Kong Island but life had other plans.

The first was that I'd noticed Lamma dog Fido had been drooling for a couple of days and thought at first that it was the stomach bug that has been going round (not a joke when you have multiple dogs to medicate twice a day).  However today I saw he had trouble eating and then thought it must be a tooth problem, and luckily Dr Fred at ALCVC agreed to see Fido for what I assumed would be a simple extraction.  It turned out to be a large oral mass, which was successfully excised, but now I have to wait for the lab results to ascertain if it's a malignant or benign growth.  As always, Fido had kept this problem a total secret until it had become impossible to hide, and as the rest of him is in excellent condition I had no idea.  That's dogs for you.

Raven going home

While I was over at the Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre waiting for Fido to be ready to go home, I was able to say goodbye to Raven, a gorgeous little dog, who was leaving to start her new life as a forever family dog.   If you want to see photos of more of the smaller dogs available please go to hkdr_eagle, or visit our website www.hongkongdogrescue.com/dogs/

Four roly poly buns

The second surprise of the day was getting an urgent message from AFCD Pokfulam about four baby pups that someone had dropped off, asking if we would be able to take them.  The HKDR emergency foster hotline was activated, meaning Cindy was asked to help find homes, and quite incredibly within a very short time she had done just that.  Iris had commented that the pups looked like loaves of bread, so I quickly gave them names before they were picked up by their foster parents.  The pups are probably two weeks old as their eyes are already open, so in just a week they can start to transition to eating soft food rather than needing to be bottle-fed, something that I'm sure is always a relief to all of the fosters.

The other foster babies that were rescued as newborns continue their high-speed development, and as always you can watch how this happens by following @why_i_foster on Instagram, and @typhoon_k_puppies, where six orphans are being hand-reared in the same home (what an amazing feat that is too!)  Remember you can reserve any of these puppies for adoption when the time comes, and this way you will have a history going back almost to the moment they were born, knowing that they have had the best care and lot of love, not to mention food.  You can do this by completing the adoption questionnaire at www.hongkongdogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-questionnaire/, and if you want to adopt a pair they're available at any time.

Remember both of our Homing Centres at Ap Lei Chau and Tai Po are open every single day of the year from 10am to 6pm, and while no appointment is necessary if you want to visit we do ask that you start by completing the adoption questionnaire , and then wait for a reply.  We almost always reply on the same day, so please check your Spam if you haven't heard back.
