Weds 8th Dec: There's always a last-minute emergency

Well that was quick! A few minutes after I posted yesterday's blog showing the newly arrived dachshund boy Lennox,  his new family-to-be were speeding over to Ap Lei Chau to meet him, so he's already off the available list.

Yoshi and his new parents

Also no longer available is shiba inu Yoshi, an ex-breeder puppy who came to us with a broken leg and jaw.  The dressing on his leg has been removed but he will need to have restricted exercise for a few more weeks, and then he'll be as good as new and can enjoy running and hiking and all the things I'm sure he can't wait to do.
Look how gorgeous Gretel is!

One of the pair of Hansel and Gretel, a gorgeous sibling pair staying at Tai Po, was adopted today.  When I saw the photo of Gretel leaving, not only did I comment on how beautiful she is, but also how small.  Apparently they haven't grown at all since they arrived, so we can assume brother Hansel will also remain a medium size as an adult.  I wish they could have stayed together, but a home is a home and we can't have everything we want.

We urgently need a foster home for the milk baby

It's always just as the day is coming to an end that I tend to get the urgent calls for help, and today it was from AFCD Pokfulam asking if we could take what we refer to as a milk baby, meaning one that still needs to be bottle fed.  My first call goes out to Cindy, our Foster Coordinator, and then to the Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre, but Cindy was busy at work (yes, she has a full time "real" job) and the Homing Centre staff were dealing with Yoshi's adoption, so I couldn't get a response.  Finally a volunteer at Ap Lei Chau agreed to take the baby for the night, despite having no experience with bottle feeding a puppy, so I was able to let the AFCD staff member know.   However we will need a longer-term foster home for this suckling baby, so please email Cindy at foster@hongkongdogrescue.com if you're able to help.  Being a singleton we'd prefer a home where there is a friendly resident dog, because puppies really need to be able to snuggle and have a four-legged playmate.  Some dogs make the best nannies, and that would be perfect.

There's so much going on at the moment, with the potential move from Ap Lei Chau taking up a lot of time and mental energy, and all sorts of things needing ongoing attention, including taking care of the seniors living with me on Lamma. The thought of Christmas approaching has barely even registered, but as there is only two-and-a-but weeks to go can I ask that you remember the dogs and puppies in your Christmas gift list?   We're always happy to receive canned food and high quality dog treats (the dried meat ones are best)  to make the time a bit more special for the dogs.  Thank you.
