Sun 12th Dec: Shiba Donny moves to Lamma

Big sister (was Tiana) in front of Tate

Although you can see Tate in these wonderful shots taken by our regular Sunday volunteer photographer Eric Tang Puppy Adoption Day 12th Dec 2021, he's no longer available as he was adopted later in the day.  Tate joined another ex-HKDR dog, also adopted as a puppy, so he has a ready-made big sister, the best possible scenario for him.  It also means we can be quite sure that the home is prepared for a puppy having been through the process before, and that Tate will be very happy.
Ripple (or Wavy) made a brief appearance today

Not all of the available puppies stay at our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre, or even attend the Whiskers N Paws Sunday parties, because they're in foster homes.  Ideally these puppies will move directly to their forever families rather than having to be returned to the Homing Centre, and you can arrange to meet them via our Foster Coodinator Cindy at foster@hongkongdogrescue.com.  Ripple and Wavy, rescued as newborns and raised in a loving foster home, were taken briefly to Whiskers N Paws today, while Bun and Blini are clearly having the best time in their temporary home (as are their siblings Brioche and Baguette).   Watch the video showing the two pups trying to reach the cat, it's very sweet.

Apart from being able to meet the dogs and puppies any day of the week at our Ap Lei Chau and Tai Po Homing Centres, the 2022 Cube Calendars are now available for sale, as well as assorted wines at Ap Lei Chau (while stocks last).

News just in, we are expecting a white shiba inu puppy, ten months old, who is due to come to us on Monday.  This puppy is a breeder reject due to him having a scar on his leg, and he's not being surrendered because of behaviour issues. As always please start by completing the adoption questionnaire if you're interested: www.hongkongdogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-questionnaire/

Donny is moving to Lamma

As always I have to mention that shiba inus need to go to homes that can offer what this particular breed needs, and those homes aren't easy to find.  We have had many applications to adopt shiba Donny, who came to us as a puppy and who is still with us, and now that he is reaching adulthood he is moving to Lamma where there is space and freedom for him to run around.  These dogs are not lap dogs, not toys, and often not suitable to be in homes with children. They were traditionally bred as hunting dogs so they're strong, hardy and need mental stimulation as well as good exercise.   There are exception as always, and some shibas like just-adopted Yoshi are very sweet, but Donny is what I would call typical of the breed.  He's funny, happy and playful, but his idea of play might not be what most humans would appreciate within the confines of the Homing Centre or a small home.  Donny is still available for adoption, but we won't let any dog go to a home that can't provide what that particular dog needs, and in Donny's case that's a lot of space and a big garden.
