Mon 11th March: When an adoption is frustrating

I don't have much luck with choosing the right day to take a dog to the vet, as today the weather was terrible for making the crossing in a sampan from Lamma to Hong Kong Island.  Poor Campari, the dog, wasn't happy, but then neither was I.  Anyway we made it, and Campari came back home later looking as though she'd had a major facelift rather than the removal of an annoying wart that kept bursting open and getting infected with screw worm.

Today's adoption was frustrating, and that might seem like a strange thing to say about a dog finding a lovely new family so I'll explain.  We'd posted Rory's photo on our social media pages, and there were two very nice applications to adopt.  It came down to which family could come to take Rory home first, and as it happened both parties could come immediately.  Obviously there's only one Rory, so it was a matter of minutes between his adoption by the first family, and the arrival of the other.  Although we have other dogs that are very similar to Rory in looks and type, sometimes when a certain dog is stuck in someone's mind then no other dog will do.  Incidentally, Rory is one of the two puppies whose mother was Freda, also recently adopted.  The second puppy is Renee, and she is still available although not a terrier-type in looks.

Puppy Suki

For the record, here are the other two dogs of similar size, looks and age to Rory.  One is Suki, and the other is Freckles.
I love this boy Freckles

Inevitably we had some new arrivals to fill any gaps in numbers at Kennedy Town, and there are two that I think should be immediately popular. One is a young poodle, now Buzzy, and the other a French bulldog, now Bumper.  Brady is a schnauzer, although not a youngster.

Poor little Mushroom

I previously forgot to mention a very small senior Pekingese we took from AFCD, along with other adult mongrels who are now at our Tai Po Homing Centre.  The peke is called Mushroom, and although he's luckily in a foster home his health isn't great.  He has a bad heart and painful legs, but we'll do our best to make his life as good as it can possibly be.
