Mon 15th June: Catching up with vet visits

Bobby and Owen need foster homes please
It's been quite difficult keeping up with all of the new dogs coming in and their vet visits, especially with the four labradors who came from the same place, not somewhere that could be called a home.  It's clear from their condition that they were simply "there", not as pets or companions, not cared for or cared about, just dogs that must have been bought as puppies and kept until they were old and no longer attractive.  These dogs are overweight and unfit, have obviously never been walked or had even a hint of basic care like ear cleaning.  Their now ex-owners are very wealthy, so to hide their identity they signed the dogs over to their helper, the name that was on the licenses when they were delivered to our Tai Po Homing Centre.

I'm saying this because sometimes we're asked if we do home visits before letting dogs go to new homes, and the fact is we don't.  Big homes with smart addresses don't always equate with owners who care, in fact these are often the type of people who tend to allocate everything to their staff and helpers, exactly as happened with the four labradors.
Adorable "T" puppies are happy at our Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre

Of course we love the rags to riches stories, the puppies like the "T" litter who are plucked from near-starvation and end up living the life of an adored and pampered rich kid, but riches come in different forms and dogs don't care about money, they care about being one of the family and security.

Now we're faced with huge vet bills as one by the labradors are checked and we receive a long list of what's wrong and the treatment that's required.  Two of the four are lucky enough to be in foster homes, while Bobby and Owen are still at the Tai Po Homing Centre.  If there's anyone reading this who can take one or both of these boys home while we get everything sorted out and restore them to at least a reasonable level of health and fitness, please contact Cindy at foster@hongkongdogrescue.com.  We provide everything that's needed during the foster period, only asking that the dogs are taken to Concordia Pet Care for their respective vet appointments.

Coffee will be going home on Tuesday
