Thurs 7th April: Special Sunday coming up

Gorgeous sweet senior Dandy is waiting for a home
Life seems to have returned to normal now, as far as my life can be called that, with the new HKDR van back on the road and the numerous public holidays over.  Now it's only the website that has to have the final tweaks before going live and we'll be up to full speed, and I hope that means seeing dogs marching out of the doors in double-quick time too.

At least the news was good from Acorn, with both my Lamma dog Cairo and corgi Coco being declared fit enough to get out of hospital on Friday.   Cairo did her best to leave with me today when I opened her cage door today to have a cuddle, and I felt terrible having to push her back in when I know she doesn't understand why she's there.  If I didn't know how seriously ill and dehydrated she had been when she arrived I would have been tempted to give in and let her come home, but it's just one more day.

Thanks to HKDR volunteer "Patrick Bob" for the
the wonderful work on PAWsome Outreach
Wednesday is the turning point in the week, marked for me by my regular day at home, and then the countdown to the weekend starts.  Hopefully that means a busy time for both Ap Lei Chau and Tai Po Homing Centres, and Whiskers N Paws on Sunday.  Saturday is also now our regular Tamar Park day, when a group of four lucky dogs get an afternoon of fun and play while hoping that someone will notice them and perhaps be interested in adopting.  At the very least everyone has a great time, and you can always check out details of the individual dogs on the PAWsome Outreach Facebook page.

Apart from the regular volunteers who help out at Tamar Park on Saturdays and Whiskers N Paws on Sundays, I'd like to give a special mention to our Sunday photographers who turn up every week to record the puppies and (hopefully) their goodbye moment when they leave to start their new lives. Semirah Darwin has been our regular volunteer photographer for so long now that I can't even remember,  and she in turn has recruited others to give up their weekend time to help. This coming Sunday we have a special guest in Peter Yuen, whose beautiful photos of rescued animals throughout Asia can be seen on his website www.peteryuenphotography.com or facebook.com/peteryuenphotography.   Peter also adopted his dog Maddie from HKDR, so there is a special connection there.   Hopefully the rain will hold off and there will be enough people not going to the rugby to make it a great afternoon, so please come along if you are free to join (and OK, I admit, there might be something else going on which I can't mention because it's a surprise).

Big boy Belly
I thought all three of the pugs that were found abandoned in a cage (see yesterday's post) were staying with their fosters, but the biggest and youngest of them is in need of a forever home now that their case, such as it was, has been closed.  Belly isn't a regular kind of pug in that he is really quite large and also very active.  He loves his top-speed runs around Cyberport park and needs far more exercise than would normally be expected for this breed, so please consider that if you are interested in giving this affectionate and playful boy a forever home.  Belly is still a youngster at three years old, and he's a happy and very friendly dog would would make a great family member.
Run Belly run!
