Thur 14th April: A busy weekend coming up

This sweet little guy should have a new home very soon
Quite a few people have been asking about the little cocker spaniel I mentioned yesterday, and after having taken him to AFCD in Pokfulam for scanning and a rabies vaccination, and then on to Acorn for a quick health check, I now know that he is thirteen years old and although seemingly fit and active for his age his heart isn't in great condition. He's a very sweet little dog though, and with some treatment for his skin problem he will be fine.   As in all of these cases of a dog that is microchipped and has a registered owner (although the license expired in 2010), we can't officially re-home him but he is certainly available for fostering until his status is confirmed (and just as I was writing I received a nice offer).

Can you help this sweet boy?
There's another special case that we really hope will result in a happy ending for a particular dog  who is currently at AFCD in Sheung Shui.  He is a young boy at a year old but he only has three legs, and while that doesn't affect a dog's ability to run like any other four-legged animal it does affect his chances of adoption.  Or maybe, if he is lucky, the very fact that he is a bit different and therefore somewhat special will win him a place in someone's heart and home.  We really need to have a place secured for him before we can take him out of AFCD so please let me know if you are able to help.

Despite the weather continuing to be so awful there's always work to be done and dogs to be walked, even if the enthusiasm from both sides is somewhat lacking. If you are a volunteer please don't let the soggy skies prevent you from showing up as usual, as we are open every day whatever the conditions and the dogs really love to have company.

Events that have been planned will still go ahead, and that includes the HKEF Inter-school Equestrian Challenge Final on Saturday 16th April starting at 9am and finishing around 4pm at the Lo Wu Saddle Club where HKDR will have a stall.  This horse-and-dog event has always been a lot of fun in the past and I'm sure this year will be no exception.

For yoga fans there will be a Stack-up Vinyasa Flow with Marcus Wong ( charity class ) taking place on Saturday, 10.30am at Central Pier number 9 with all donations coming to Hong Kong Dog Rescue.  Marcus is a long-term supporter and adopter as well as being an incredible yoga teacher, so this is well worth going to if you feel like a good stretch.

Now every day is Puppy Day
Of course we will be back at Tamar Park on Saturday afternoon with this week's chosen PAWsome Outreach dogs, and at Whiskers N Paws on Sunday, 2pm to 5pm, with our lovely puppies. Please note that puppies are also available to meet and adopt any day of the week at our own Ap Lei Chau Homing Centre, so don't worry if you can't make it at weekends.
