Fri 3rd Feb: Finally it's time for Valerie

It was a bit of a slow news day today as I was out and about in the New Territories so didn't make any trips to Acorn or AFCD although I was joined by two returned foster puppies when I made my way home at the end of the afternoon.  It's going to be a busy weekend ahead and I'll be out and about early on Saturday as well as at Whiskers N Paws on Sunday, but more of that in tomorrow's post.

Old man Atticus
Poor little Atticus made the one-way trip to the Rainbow Bridge today after his heart finally gave up. We always knew he had a heart problem so it was really only a matter of time, but he was a lucky boy in the final months of his life because he was in a loving foster home where he could enjoy all the comforts we can't offer at the Homing Centre.  Everyone was so happy for him when he was chosen as we honestly never expected it, and while it's always sad when a dog dies Atticus left in his own time and very quickly.

It's wonderful that older dogs who already have known health issues are still able to find end-of-life opportunities, and we are always grateful to all of our foster parents, whatever age the dog or puppy is.

Valerie as bridesmaid at Yanki and Siu Pang's wedding
Another long-termer is going to be leaving Tai Po, and this time with a couple who have known and loved her for many years.  Valerie was with us at our Pokfulam Kennels (which we left in 2010), and attended the wedding of her soon-to-be adopters as a guest of honour.  Now the time and circumstances are right for Yanki and Siu Pang to give Valerie a real home, and I'm sure there's going to be a great send-off when she leaves the Homing Centre for ever.
